Service Description: There are thousands of wastewater treatment facilities in the United States. Many of those facilities operate anaerobic digestion systems to generate energy from biogas and to control emissions of greenhouse gases. Biogas flow from these digesters can be used as fuel to generate reliable electricity and heat for the facility. Details about the types of anaerobic digestion systems that are available from this map were compiled by EPA staff in EPA Region 9 conjunction with the development of a pilot mapping tool.
